This is Me… was our first Back on Track course, funded by the High Sheriff & Merseyside Police Fund, and delivered in partnership with Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre. Over 9 weeks, our young people learnt to design and make up a range of clothing and accessories as well as developing their confidence and self-esteem. All the young people on the course showed an improvement in their well-being, confidence and self-esteem – and this led to two people going into employment and two more planning on returning to higher education – plus some new volunteers for the drop-in sewing classes at Kuumba Imani.
In their own words, this is how the young people rated the course: “I really enjoyed the course – it boosted my self confidence and taught me not to sweat the small stuff. Many thanks.”
“Great course, which was run brilliantly”.
“Enjoyable, fun, stimulating, challenging, motivating successful”.
The only negative? The wish that it was longer.
Proof that practical, creative activities can not only teach new skills, but unlock potential, develop a better sense of self, improve mental well-being – and encourage people to believe they can achieve.
